Who is Bradley King?

I’m an LA-based writer/director, most known for my feature film Time Lapse (2015, Danielle Panabaker, John Rhys-Davies) but I work in a variety of media.

My first vocation was sculptor. I later worked in graphic design and self-published comics. These varied disciplines united when I fell in love with cinema. While cutting my teeth on short films, I worked in indie video games and saved up to self-fund my debut feature, Time Lapse.

That led to awards and distribution, but I turned down offers to make another movie in order to manage care for my aging parents. I’m now getting back to directing, while also adapting a few of my unproduced screenplays to prose.

What’s this Substack for?

My reference points for peak audience engagement are test screenings and the festival circuit. These are wonderful, interactive, creatively recharging experiences - counterweighted by massive periods of isolated labor. I’d love a wider channel for connecting to viewers, readers, and other creatives.

What can I expect?

  • Weekly delivery of chapters from Red Shift, leading up to its publication on Kindle / paperback in late 2024.

  • TBD: Occasional glimpses into my process and updates on my journey.

Do I have to pay for a subscription?

No. Free subscribers get the same content as paid. However, I welcome and appreciate patronage, and in return you’ll be listed in the credits of whatever books, movies, or other works are completed with your help.

Either way, your comments, feedback, and engagement will be invaluable to the creative process. Thank you for coming along on the journey!
